Summer Speed Work for Kickers: The '3-Step, 3-Yard' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Erasmus Hall DutchmenยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the summer heat continues to soar, kickers at top AA programs like Erasmus Hall Dutchmen are putting in the work to refine their technique and build explosive power. One effective drill to incorporate into your training regimen is the '3-Step, 3-Yard' drill. Set up three markers, each 3 yards apart, with a kicking target at the final mark. Start in a 3-point stance, take 3 steps back, and then 3 steps forward, striking the ball with maximum power and accuracy. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive step' and 'follow through.' This drill translates to game performance by improving balance, acceleration, and ball striking consistency, giving kickers a competitive edge on Friday nights.
