Unlocking Dominance: DE Drill for AA Programs
As the pre-season heats up, defensive end players at top AA programs like Aquinas Institute's Little Irish must hone their skills to take down opponents. One effective drill to add to your training regimen is the 'Rip and Go' exercise. Divide players into pairs, with one defender in a 3-point stance and the other in a quarterback position. The defender must explode off the line, using their hands to 'rip' the QB's arm, then immediately pursue to the ball carrier. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'rip and go' on the initial explosion, and 'chase the ball' on the pursuit. This drill translates to game performance by improving speed, agility, and hand-eye coordination โ essential for DEs to take down ball carriers in the backfield.
