Quarterback Quick Release Drill for Erasmus Hall Dutchmen
As the Erasmus Hall Dutchmen prepare for the upcoming season, quarterback coach, Mike Smith, has emphasized the importance of a quick release. To improve this, Coach Smith has implemented a drill that targets the quarterback's ability to quickly drop back and deliver the ball to their receivers. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps with a 30-second rest in between. Each rep starts with the quarterback in a shotgun stance, taking a 3-step drop, and releasing the ball to a receiver 10 yards downfield. Coaching cues include keeping the elbow at a 90-degree angle, following through with the fingers, and keeping the eyes on the receiver. This drill translates to game performance by allowing the quarterback to quickly diagnose plays and deliver the ball to their receivers, resulting in more completions and a more efficient offense.
