FridayNightPulse: RB Power Drill for AA Programs
For running backs at AA programs like Aquinas Institute Little Irish, a key area of focus is developing the ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts. To improve this skill, we recommend the 'Cone Weave and Accelerate' drill. Set up 5 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Players start at one end and weave through the cones, focusing on quick footwork and keeping their eyes up. After completing the weave, they accelerate to the next cone, using a 3-step approach. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'keep your feet low and quick' and 'explosive acceleration out of the cut.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate out of tackles, creating more opportunities for big plays.
