As the inaugural 2028 season approaches, the University of Nebraska's Power 4 flag football program, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, is generating buzz among multisport female athletes. For Archbishop Moeller Crusaders' standout athlete, Emily Johnson, flag football offers a concrete college opportunity. A decorated track and field star, Johnson is pivoting to flag football to capitalize on the growing number of NAIA and NCAA D1 programs offering scholarships. Ottawa University, Kansas, and Keiser University, Florida, are among the schools actively recruiting Johnson. Midland University, Nebraska, is also in the mix. With UT Arlington's program still in development, Johnson is focusing on verified scholarship pathways. She is working with her coaches to create a highlight tape showcasing her skills, which will be sent to the aforementioned schools. This strategic approach is paying off, as Johnson is now a top target for several programs.
