Cardinal's Corner: CB Drill for Mentor's Top Talent
This summer, Mentor Cardinals' cornerbacks will be putting in the work with a specialized drill designed to improve their reaction time and foot speed. The 'Lateral Shuffle' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between sets. Players will start in a 3-point stance, then quickly shift their weight onto their back foot and shuffle 5 yards to their left, before immediately shuffling 5 yards back to their right. Coaches will be looking for explosive acceleration and quick changes of direction. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to stay with receivers on deep routes and quickly recover to the ball in the air. By incorporating this drill into their training, Mentor's top CBs will be ready to take on the best of the Northeast Ohio Conference.
