FridayNightPulse Training Tip: S Players at Div I Programs

๐Ÿ“ Archbishop Moeller CrusadersยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week's training tip is designed for Safety players at Division I programs like Archbishop Moeller Crusaders. The 'Reaction to the Ball' drill is a critical component of S-player development, focusing on quick reactions, agility, and tackling technique. Set up a series of 5-6 cones in a zig-zag pattern, approximately 5 yards apart. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. On the whistle, the Safety sprints to the first cone, reacting to a ball carrier (or bag) approaching from the side. Upon contact, the Safety immediately wraps up the ball carrier, focusing on proper tackling technique. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the ball' and 'wrap up, don't roll up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S-players' ability to read the offense and react quickly to the ball carrier, resulting in more tackles and turnovers.
