Warrior Speed: A Pre-Season RB Drill for Wayne Warriors

๐Ÿ“ Wayne WarriorsยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Wayne Warriors prepare for another dominant season, running back coach, Mike Johnson, emphasizes the importance of speed and agility training. To improve RBs' ability to change direction and accelerate, Johnson recommends the following drill: 'Cone Weave and Acceleration.' Set up 5 cones in a zig-zag pattern, spaced 5 yards apart. Have RBs perform 3 sets of 10 reps, weaving through the cones at game speed. After each set, have them accelerate through the course, focusing on explosive power. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes up, stay low, and explode out of each cut.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate, making them harder to tackle. It also helps build confidence and endurance, essential for a long season.
