Quarterback Quick Release Drill for Div II Programs
Quarterbacks at Div II programs like Massillon Tigers can improve their accuracy and speed with the Quick Release Drill. This drill targets the quarterback's ability to quickly release the ball after receiving the snap. To set up, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one quarterback as the snapper and the other as the receiver. The snapper calls out a specific snap count, and the receiver starts in a 5-yard shallow cross route. The quarterback must quickly receive the snap, drop back, and release the ball to the receiver within 2 seconds. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper footwork and body positioning. Coaching cues include 'eyes up, snap the ball, drop and throw.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to develop a consistent release time, improving accuracy and allowing for quicker decision-making on the field.
