Explosive Edge: A DE Drill for Stillwater Pioneers and 5A Programs
This summer, Stillwater Pioneers defensive end coach can expect to see significant improvement from their DEs with the addition of the 'Rush and Recover' drill. This high-intensity workout targets the key attributes of speed, agility, and strength necessary for success on the edge. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, explode off the line, and rush 10 yards downfield. Upon reaching the designated line, they quickly recover and return to the starting position. Coaching cues include 'explosive off the line' and 'quick transition.' This drill translates to game performance by improving DEs' ability to rapidly close gaps and recover to the ball carrier, making them more effective pass rushers and run stoppers. By incorporating the 'Rush and Recover' drill into their training, Stillwater Pioneers can gain a significant edge on the competition.
