Summer Speed Work for S Players: The Broken Arrow Tiger Sprint Shuttle
The Broken Arrow Tigers' S players are gearing up for another dominant season in 6A-I. To improve their speed and agility, head coach and strength coach have developed a drill that targets explosive acceleration and quick changes of direction. The Sprint Shuttle Drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Start in a 3-point stance, explode 10 yards downfield, and immediately change direction to sprint back to the starting point. 2) After 3 sets, rest for 2 minutes. 3) Repeat with a focus on faster acceleration and quicker turns. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through your back foot,' 'Keep your eyes up,' and 'Unweight your back leg.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the quick changes of direction and explosive acceleration seen on the field.
