Tiger-Proofing LBs: The Broken Arrow Drill for 6A-I Success
At Broken Arrow High School, 6A-I linebackers are gearing up for another dominant season with a specialized drill designed to sharpen their instincts and reaction time. The 'Tiger Trap' drill involves a series of cone stations set up in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. LBs start at the first cone, then drop back 3 yards, and react to a coach's verbal cue to change direction and pursue an imaginary ball carrier. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Trap and turn,' 'Read and react,' and 'Finish with feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving LBs' ability to diagnose plays, change direction quickly, and close on ball carriers. By mastering the Tiger Trap, Broken Arrow's LBs will be ready to take on the best of 6A-I.
