Sprint into the Season: Broken Arrow Tigers' Speed Drill

๐Ÿ“ Broken Arrow TigersยทMonday, July 13, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 6A-I powerhouse Broken Arrow Tigers, head coach Danny Wright emphasizes the importance of speed and agility for his S players. To get them ready for the gridiron, Wright's staff has developed a drill that targets explosive acceleration and deceleration. The 'Tiger Tornado' drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps, with 20 yards of space marked off in 10-yard increments. Players start at the 10-yard line, sprinting to the 20-yard line, then quickly change direction to decelerate and accelerate again. Coaching cues include 'explosive out of the gate' and 'quick feet, quick body.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and make tackles in pursuit. By incorporating the Tiger Tornado into their pre-season training, Broken Arrow's S players will be ready to wreak havoc on opponents come kickoff.
