Rams' CBs Get Ready for Season with 'Shadowing the Receiver' Drill
At Owasso Rams' summer camp, cornerbacks are working on a drill designed to improve their ability to stay with receivers in man-to-man coverage. The 'Shadowing the Receiver' drill involves two players: a receiver and a cornerback. The receiver runs a 5-yard out route, while the cornerback starts 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. The coach calls out 'shadow' and the cornerback must immediately match the receiver's speed and distance. The receiver then changes direction, running a 10-yard in route. The cornerback must quickly adjust, staying within 2 yards of the receiver. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving the cornerback's ability to stay with receivers in space and make quick adjustments on the fly.
