Kicker Prep: Jenks Trojans' Summer Camp Focus
High school kickers at 6A-I programs like Jenks Trojans are putting in the work this summer to perfect their craft. One key drill to add to your training regimen is the "Pop-Up" kick. This drill targets accuracy and power on shorter field goals. To set it up, place 3-4 cones in a triangular formation, 10 yards apart. Start with the kicker 5 yards back from the first cone. On the whistle, they must pop up and kick the ball through the next cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick release and follow-through. Coaching cues include "quick feet, quick release" and "keep eyes on the target." This drill translates to game performance by simulating the pressure and time constraints of a real game situation, allowing kickers to develop muscle memory and build confidence in their ability to make clutch kicks.
