Lake Oswego Lakers WRs: Master the '5-Yard Out' Drill for Game-Changing Separation
At Lake Oswego High School, our 6A WRs are honing their skills with the '5-Yard Out' drill. This drill focuses on quick releases, footwork, and separation from defenders. To start, set up cones 5 yards apart in a straight line. Have your WRs start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, planting their outside foot and releasing a quick out route. The coach should provide a defender to mirror the WR's movements. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper footwork and release technique. Coaching cues include: 'Quick feet, quick hands,' and 'Separate with your hips.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create separation in tight spaces, making them a threat on any given play. By mastering the '5-Yard Out' drill, our Lakers WRs are gaining a valuable edge in the 6A competition.
