West Linn Elevates Assistant Coach to Coordinator Role
West Linn High School has promoted assistant coach Ryan Thompson to defensive coordinator, the program announced Thursday. Thompson, a five-year veteran of the Lions' staff, will oversee the team's defensive unit as West Linn prepares for the 2026 season. The Lions, a perennial power in the 6A classification, have won two league titles and appeared in the state playoffs three times in the past five years. Thompson's elevation is seen as a key move in the program's bid to repeat as league champions and make a deep run in the playoffs. The Lions' recruiting class is expected to be one of the strongest in the state, and Thompson's leadership will be crucial in developing the team's young talent. The Lions open the season at home against Lake Oswego on Sept. 10.
