Building a Stronger Lake Oswego Lakers O-Line: The 3-Box Drill
This summer, Lake Oswego Lakers 6A football program is focusing on building a dominant O-line. One key drill to help achieve this goal is the 3-Box Drill. This drill targets the key areas of footwork, hand placement, and core strength. To set up the drill, divide the players into pairs with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. Set up three boxes of varying sizes, with the largest box representing the outside shoulder, the middle box the chest, and the smallest box the inside shoulder. The blocker must execute a perfect footwork pattern, then place their hands in the correct position, and finally generate power from their core to knock over the boxes. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving footwork, hand placement, and core strength, allowing blockers to dominate defenders and create holes for the running back.
