Speedster S-Drill for 6A Programs
Sheldon Irish and other top 6A programs are gearing up for a dominant season. One key to their success will be the speed and agility of their safeties. To improve their quickness and reaction time, coaches can implement the S-Drill. This high-intensity workout targets the hips, legs, and core. Set up four cones in a square formation, with one cone in the center. Players start at one corner, then sprint to the adjacent cone, making a sharp cut back to the center cone. From there, they dash to the opposite corner, cutting back to the center cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaches can add a twist by having players change direction quickly or incorporate a ball toss to simulate game situations. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and decision-making under pressure. It's a must-add to any 6A program's pre-season training regimen.
