West Linn Lions RBs: Master the 'Explosive Jump Cut' Drill

๐Ÿ“ West Linn LionsยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the West Linn Lions prepare for the upcoming 6A season, running backs must develop the agility and speed to break tackles and change direction quickly. To improve their explosiveness, the Lions' coaching staff has implemented the 'Explosive Jump Cut' drill. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest period between sets. Players start in a three-point stance, then explosively jump and cut 90 degrees to the left or right, landing softly on the balls of their feet. Coaching cues include 'Quick feet, quick hands' and 'Explode, don't step.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders, creating opportunities for big gains.
