Kicker Prep: Building Leg Strength with the 'Kicking Box' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Sheldon IrishยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

High school kickers at 6A programs like Sheldon Irish can benefit from a drill that targets leg strength and power. The 'Kicking Box' drill involves setting up a series of small boxes or cones in a rectangular formation. The kicker starts at one end, drops down to a squat position, and kicks a ball through the box at the opposite end. The kicker then repeats the process, moving to the next box. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include maintaining a tight core and explosive leg drive. This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to generate power and accuracy on longer field goals. It also enhances their ability to maintain composure under pressure.
