Sheldon Irish Linebackers: 'Read and React' Drill for Pre-Season Prep
As the 6A season approaches, Sheldon Irish linebackers are gearing up with a crucial pre-season drill: the 'Read and React' exercise. This high-intensity drill targets reaction time, agility, and decision-making skills. To execute: set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Players start at one end, focus on the quarterback (or coach) at the other end. On the whistle, the quarterback calls a play, and players must read the action, then react by changing direction through the cones. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues emphasize 'stay low,' 'keep eyes on the quarterback,' and 'react quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by improving linebackers' ability to read and react to plays, making split-second decisions that can alter the outcome of a game.
