Building a Stronger O-Line: The West Linn Lions' Block-Pull Drill

๐Ÿ“ West Linn LionsยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the West Linn Lions prepare for the upcoming season, their offensive line coach is putting players through a crucial drill to build strength and technique. The block-pull drill targets the OL's ability to generate power and control in the trenches. To set up the drill, pair OL players with a partner, with the blocker facing the puller. On the whistle, the blocker will block a defender, while the puller will pull from a 3-point stance, aiming to get to the blocker's inside shoulder. Coaches will call out 'pull' when the blocker starts to block, and the puller will execute 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'drive through' and 'pull to the numbers.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching OL players to work together, generate power, and control the line of scrimmage. By mastering this drill, the Lions' O-line will be better equipped to dominate in the 6A classification.
