Tightening Up: A Drill for 6A TE's
๐ Sheldon IrishยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider
For tight ends at 6A programs like Sheldon Irish, the key to success lies in their ability to separate from defenders and secure passes in traffic. To hone this skill, try the 'Box Drill'. Divide the group into pairs with one player as the TE and the other as the defender. Set up a 5-yard box with cones. The TE starts at one end of the box, the defender at the other. On the whistle, the TE must sprint to the opposite end of the box, using a 'stem' move to create separation. The defender must mirror the TE's move. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Stem, don't lean' and 'Mirror, don't chase'. This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to create space and secure passes in tight coverage.
