Hawk's Eye: Tight End Drill for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ St. Joseph's Prep HawksยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At St. Joseph's Prep, our tight end players are working on the 'Box Out' drill to improve their blocking and releasing skills. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps. Set one focuses on proper footwork and hand placement, with an emphasis on keeping the head of the defender in the box. In set two, we add a defender to the drill, with the tight end working to box them out and create space. Set three is a timed drill, where the tight end must release quickly and get open. Coaching cues include 'box it up' and 'release to the X.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to seal the edge and create separation in the passing game.
