Building a Stronger O-Line: The St. Joseph's Prep Hawks' Block-Pad Drill
This summer, 6A powerhouse St. Joseph's Prep Hawks are gearing up for another dominant season with a focus on developing their O-line. One key drill that's been making waves in their training camp is the Block-Pad Drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the strength, power, and technique of their linemen. To run the drill, set up a series of pads spaced 3-4 yards apart. Have your OL players line up 5 yards back and perform a 3-point stance. On the whistle, they'll explode forward, driving their feet into the ground and extending their arms to contact the pad. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'drive your feet,' 'extend your arms,' and 'keep your head up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to generate power and control at the point of attack, giving their QBs more time to throw and their RBs more opportunities to run.
