Vikings Break Ground on $3M Facility Upgrade
Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings football program officials broke ground on a $3 million facility upgrade project Friday, marking a major investment in the program's future. The Vikings, a perennial power in the WPIAL's Class 5A, have won 12 state championships since 1960. The upgrade, funded in part by private donations, will feature state-of-the-art weight rooms, locker rooms and training facilities. The project is expected to enhance the Vikings' recruiting efforts, as top prospects often prioritize programs with superior facilities. The upgrade also positions the Vikings to compete with the best teams in the state, as the PIAA continues to emphasize the importance of facilities in its classification and playoff rankings. The Vikings are expected to begin classes in their new facilities in time for the start of the 2026 season.
