Kicking into Gear: A 6A Kicker's Pre-Season Drill

๐Ÿ“ Coatesville Red RaidersยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top 6A programs like Coatesville Red Raiders, kickers must be prepared to make a difference in high-pressure games. One effective drill to help 6A kickers build leg strength and accuracy is the 'Step-Up, Plant, Kick' series. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Start by having the kicker stand 5 yards behind the ball, then step up onto a small platform or bench with their non-kicking foot. As they step up, they should plant their kicking foot firmly on the ground and kick the ball through the uprights. Coaching cues include 'step up, plant, kick' and 'follow through.' This drill translates to game performance by building the kicker's ability to generate power and maintain control on their kicks.
