Coatesville Red Raiders tight end DeShawn Thomas has committed to SMU for the 2027 class. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect chose the Mustangs for their pro-style offense, which aligns with his athletic abilities. Thomas projects as a H-back in SMU's system, where he can utilize his pass-catching skills and blocking prowess. He also cited the team's depth chart opportunity, as the Mustangs are expected to graduate several tight ends after the 2026 season. Additionally, Thomas praised SMU's academic program, which he believes will provide him with a strong foundation for his future. Thomas had previously committed to Penn State in 2025 but decommitted in January 2026. He will join the Mustangs in the summer of 2027, looking to contribute to the team immediately.
