FridayNightPulse: Vikings' RB Drill Prepares for Physical 5A Competition
At Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings football camp, running backs are putting in the work with a grueling drill designed to improve their strength, agility, and decision-making. The 'RB Blast' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: a 10-yard sprint, immediately followed by a 5-yard lateral dash to the left and right, and finishing with a 5-yard jump cut. Coaches cue the players to 'explode' out of the sprint, 'change direction quickly' on the lateral, and 'stay low' through the jump cut. This drill translates to game performance by simulating the quick changes of direction and bursts of speed required in 5A competition. By mastering the RB Blast, Vikings' running backs will be better equipped to break tackles and make big plays in the fall.
