Explosive Power for RBs: The 'Hawk's Hurdle Hop

๐Ÿ“ St. Joseph's Prep HawksยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At St. Joseph's Prep, our 6A Hawks are gearing up for a dominant season with a key drill that targets explosive power and speed. The 'Hawk's Hurdle Hop is a game-changer for running backs, and here's how to run it. Set up three hurdles spaced 5 yards apart, with a fourth hurdle 10 yards beyond the third. Have your RBs start at the first hurdle, then hop over each one, landing softly on the balls of their feet. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Land soft, push off hard' and 'Keep your eyes up, stay balanced.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and explosive acceleration. By mastering the 'Hawk's Hurdle Hop,' your RBs will be ready to take on any opponent this season.
