Viking Vault: QB Drill for Quick Decision-Making

๐Ÿ“ Pittsburgh Central Catholic VikingsยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks at 5A programs like Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings can benefit from incorporating the 'Quick Release' drill into their pre-season training. This drill focuses on rapid decision-making under pressure. To set up the drill, divide the QBs into pairs with one QB as the signal-caller and the other as the receiver. The signal-caller will call a play and the receiver will line up 5-7 yards downfield. On the snap, the receiver will sprint to the sideline, forcing the QB to quickly read the defense and release the ball to the receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Coaching cues include 'Quick Eyes' and 'Release the Rock.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the high-pressure situations QBs face on Friday nights, where they must make split-second decisions to succeed.
