Boosting 6A Kickoff Coverage: The St. Joseph's Prep Hawks' K-Penalty Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Joseph's Prep HawksยทTuesday, July 28, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The St. Joseph's Prep Hawks' coaching staff has developed a high-intensity drill to prepare their kickers for 6A competition. The K-Penalty Drill targets the critical aspect of kickoff coverage, where a well-placed kick can flip field position. Divide the kickers into pairs, with one kicker attempting to drill a 60-yard kick and the other defender attempting to cover the kick from 10 yards deep. Conduct 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through the ball' for the kicker and 'Stay low, stay fast' for the defender. This drill translates to game performance by teaching kickers to maintain accuracy under pressure and defenders to react quickly to the kick.
