FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Coventry Oakers' TE Drill
Coaches at Div II programs like Coventry Oakers know the importance of a strong tight end position. To improve their TEs' blocking and releasing skills, we recommend the 'Boxer Shuffle Drill'. Set up a 10-yard box with cones, and have your TEs start in a 3-point stance. On the whistle, they'll shuffle 5 yards to one side, then immediately pivot and shuffle 5 yards to the other side. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Keep your feet light and quick', 'Focus on your footwork', and 'Release off the block with a strong finish'. This drill translates to game performance by improving your TEs' ability to quickly get into position and release off the line of scrimmage. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, making them a more effective blocker and receiver.
