FridayNightPulse: S Players at Tollgate Titans - 'Shadow Shuffle' Drill
At top Div I programs like the Tollgate Titans, secondary players are constantly working on their ability to stay in phase with receivers. The 'Shadow Shuffle' drill is a key component of their summer camp training. Players line up 10 yards off the receiver, with a coach or trainer at the quarterback position. On the snap, the receiver runs a 5-yard out route, and the S player must 'shadow' the receiver, staying in phase and shuffling their feet to stay even. The coach will call out 'shuffle' or 'stay' to emphasize the importance of quick footwork and staying with the receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing S players to develop the quick reactions and agility needed to stay with faster receivers.
