Tollgate Titans Linebacker Drill: 'Backside Pursuit'
This summer, Tollgate Titans linebackers will be putting in work with the 'Backside Pursuit' drill. The drill is designed to improve reaction time, agility, and tackling ability. Set up four cones in a square formation, with one cone at the center. LBs will start at the center cone, then sprint to a cone on the perimeter. As they approach the cone, a coach will toss a medicine ball or a weighted ball to the LB's backside. The LB must quickly react, change direction, and pursue the ball carrier. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'react, change, pursue' and 'stay low, stay fast.' This drill translates to game performance by improving LBs' ability to read and react to plays, as well as their ability to pursue and tackle ball carriers in space.
