Hawk's Eye: WR Drill for Separation and YAC

๐Ÿ“ Bishop Hendricken HawksยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Bishop Hendricken, our WRs are working on the 'Route Runner's Rush' drill to improve their separation and yards after catch (YAC). This drill mimics game scenarios where WRs need to create space and accelerate after the catch. Set up 3-4 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. WRs start at the first cone, sprint to the second, then make a 90-degree cut to the third. After catching a pass from a QB, they accelerate to the fourth cone. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes up, find the soft spot,' and 'Accelerate off the catch, don't slow down.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create separation and make big plays after the catch.
