FridayNightPulse Training Tip: La Salle Academy Rams Defensive End Drill
The La Salle Academy Rams coaching staff has developed a drill to improve defensive end speed, agility, and hand placement. The 'Rapid Fire' drill involves a series of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, 5 yards from a tackling dummy. On the whistle, they explosively drive forward, using their inside foot to push off and generate power. As they approach the dummy, they focus on hand placement, aiming for the chest or shoulder pads. After contact, players quickly reset and repeat. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, explosive acceleration, and the ability to quickly change direction. By incorporating the 'Rapid Fire' drill into their training, defensive ends can become more effective pass rushers and run defenders.
