Summer Speed and Agility for 4A RBs: The 'Stallion Shuffle'
To improve their elusiveness and acceleration, 4A running backs like South Pointe's Stallions need to focus on quick changes of direction. The 'Stallion Shuffle' drill targets this weakness by combining speed and agility exercises. Set up 5 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Players start at the first cone and perform a 3-cone drill, focusing on speed and proper footwork. After completing the 3-cone drill, they immediately shift into a shuttle run, changing direction and accelerating towards the next cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'keep your eyes up' and 'drive through the cone.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate out of tackles, making them more elusive in the open field.
