Explosive Acceleration Drill for RBs: A Dutch Fork Silver Foxes Training Tip
The Dutch Fork Silver Foxes are gearing up for another dominant season in 5A football, and their running backs are no exception. To improve acceleration and get a step on defenders, Coach Thompson recommends the following drill: The 10-Yard Box Drill. Set up 5 cones in a 2x2 square, with 2 cones at the front and 3 cones at the back. Players start at the front cones and sprint to the back, then immediately change direction and sprint back to the front. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive out of the box' and 'drive through the contact.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to quickly accelerate and change direction, allowing them to break tackles and gain yards after contact.
