Tight End Tunnel Drill: Preparing 4A TE's for the Gridiron
For 4A programs like South Pointe Stallions, having a reliable tight end can be a game-changer. To improve their blocking and receiving skills, Coach Thompson recommends the Tight End Tunnel Drill. Set up a series of cones in a zig-zag pattern, with a defender at the end. The TE will start at one end, then run through the tunnel while maintaining a low pad level and keeping their eyes upfield. After clearing the tunnel, they'll receive a pass from a coach or teammate. The goal is to complete 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between sets. Coaching cues include 'keep your feet light' and 'drive through the defender.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to read blocks and create separation in tight spaces.
