FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Drills for 4A Programs
At 4A programs like Gaffney Indians, tight end play is crucial to success. This summer, focus on developing your TEs with the 'Route Box Drill'. Set up a 10x10 yard grid with cones. Divide the TEs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the quarterback. The receiver starts in a 3-point stance at one corner of the grid, while the QB lines up 5 yards behind. The QB calls a route (e.g., 'out', 'in', or 'dig') and the receiver must quickly react, running to the designated spot while the QB throws a spiral. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cue: 'Quick feet, fast hands!' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, route running, and ball skills. It also simulates game-like situations, allowing TEs to develop chemistry with their QBs.
