Sprint Route Drill: Elevating Lakewood Gators' Wide Receiver Play

๐Ÿ“ Lakewood GatorsยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Lakewood Gators prepare for the upcoming 4A season, it's essential to focus on developing their wide receivers' speed, agility, and route-running skills. One effective drill to achieve this is the Sprint Route Drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. The receiver starts at the line of scrimmage, sprints 10 yards downfield, and then immediately cuts to a 45-degree angle, running a 5-yard out route. The coaching cue is to 'keep the inside foot close to the ground and explode out of the cut.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to quickly accelerate and change direction, making them a more elusive target for defenders.
