Quarterback Quick Release Drill for 5A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Dorman CavaliersยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve quarterback quick release and accuracy, Dorman Cavaliers head coach and quarterbacks coach can implement the following drill during summer camp. The 'Quick Release' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps with 30 seconds rest in between sets. The quarterback starts in a shotgun formation 5 yards deep, with a defender or coach 10 yards downfield. The quarterback receives a snap and must release the ball within 2 seconds, focusing on a tight spiral and proper footwork. Coaching cues include 'step into the throw' and 'eyes on the target.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to develop the ability to quickly process information and release the ball accurately under pressure. It also enhances their ability to read defenses and make quick decisions.
