Local Multisport Athlete Eyes Flag Football Scholarship Opportunities

As the inaugural 2028 season of NCAA Division 1 flag football approaches, multisport athletes from the Sumter area are taking notice of the growing opportunities in the sport. For Lakewood Gators standout, Emily Wilson, the decision to pivot from traditional sports to flag football was a calculated one, driven by the chance to earn a scholarship at the collegiate level. "I've always been drawn to the speed and agility required in flag football," Wilson said. "With coaches Liz and Katie Sowers leading the charge at the University of Nebraska, I feel confident that I can compete at the highest level." Wilson is considering scholarship programs at Ottawa University, Kansas, Keiser University, Florida, and Midland University, Nebraska, all of which have established flag football programs.
