Gators' Grit: Lakewood OL Prepares for Gridiron with the 'Anchor' Drill
As the Lakewood Gators prepare for the upcoming 4A season, their OL coach has been putting his linemen through a rigorous training program. One drill that's stood out is the 'Anchor' drill, designed to improve footwork, hand placement, and overall stability. The drill involves setting up four cones in a square formation, with the OL player starting at the center cone. On the whistle, they must quickly move to the top cone, then back to the center, and finally to the bottom cone, all while maintaining proper footwork and hand placement. Coaches will be looking for quick reactions, proper body positioning, and the ability to quickly reset. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill will translate to game performance by improving the OL's ability to quickly react to defensive schemes and maintain a strong anchor in the trenches.
