FridayNightPulse: Power Rush Drill for 4A Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Lakewood GatorsยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 4A programs like Lakewood Gators, defensive ends are key to stopping opponents' running games. To improve their speed and agility, coaches can implement the Power Rush Drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively jump up and quickly change direction to rush the quarterback. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and ' explosive acceleration.' As players perform the drill, coaches can provide feedback on their footwork and body positioning. The Power Rush Drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to quickly close gaps and pressure the quarterback. This drill can be adapted to different levels of experience and can be incorporated into a team's strength and conditioning program.
