Unlocking Tight End Potential with the Stallion Slant Drill
At South Pointe Stallions, tight end development is a top priority. To improve their route-running skills, the coaching staff has implemented the Stallion Slant Drill. This drill targets the tight end's ability to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders. The setup: two lines of three players each, with one player at the top of each line as the quarterback. The quarterback calls a slant route and the tight end must quickly release to the sideline, using a 45-degree cut to create space. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Coaching cue: 'Quick feet, sharp cut.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching tight ends to quickly identify and exploit defensive weaknesses, creating opportunities for big plays.
