Speed Development for 11A S Players: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Tea Area TitansยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Tea Area Titans prepare for the upcoming season, speed development is crucial for their S players. One effective drill to improve acceleration and deceleration is the 5-Yard Shuttle. This drill targets the muscles used in rapid changes of direction, essential for S players in the 11A division. To run the drill, set up two cones 5 yards apart. Have the player start at one cone, sprint to the other, then immediately change direction and sprint back to the starting cone. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive start,' 'aggressive cut,' and 'quick recovery.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the player's ability to quickly close gaps and change direction on the field, making them a more effective S player. By incorporating the 5-Yard Shuttle into their training, the Titans can gain a competitive edge this season.
