Rough Rider OLs: Master the 'Hinge and Slide' Drill for Dominant Play
As the Roosevelt Rough Riders prepare for the 2026 season, Offensive Line players must hone their skills to take on the toughest opponents in 11AA. One essential drill to add to your summer camp routine is the 'Hinge and Slide' exercise. This drill focuses on footwork, agility, and hand placement. Set up a 10-yard course with cones. OLs will start in a 3-point stance, hinge their knees, and slide their feet 5 yards forward while keeping their upper body upright. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Keep your weight in your heels,' 'Slide your feet, don't slide your hips,' and 'Keep your hands inside the numbers.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OLs' ability to quickly react to defensive linemen and maintain proper positioning in pass protection.
